Hope for Winter

Oct 19, 2016 | Devotionals

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17

If you are like the vast majority of us in the northern hemisphere, you’ve been stranded without snow under your feet for one too many months right now. It’s been a long summer, am I right? Just recently, the nights are starting to get a little cooler. You might even be able to start counting down the weeks until opening day on your local hill. It’s coming!

The off-season can be hard for us. But how amazing is it going to be to strap in for that first lift ride? Drag your arm-pit on the first euro-carve? Lay that first pow slash? Be reunited with your shred buddies? The hope of those things gets us through! They’re going to be that much sweeter because we longed for them all summer.

Just like you are holding onto the hope of this winter, have hope for a new, everlasting life with God!

Our first-world snowboarder/skier problems can be a goofy metaphor to the real struggles of this life. Maybe you are suffering from some serious problems right now. Health issues, loss of a loved one, future uncertainty, depression, etc. There’s no escaping trouble in this life. However, we can have hope in the eternal kingdom of God, where everything will be made perfect and all of the struggles of this life will be no more. Keep this in mind as you struggle through the last few weeks before snow. Just like you are holding onto the hope of this winter, have hope for a new, everlasting life with God!!

Challenge

What are the top 3 things you are looking forward to this shred-season?

Now that you are imaging them, how flippin excited are you!? Sometimes it’s hard to grasp or even focus on what the future kingdom of God will be like. Imagine how great you are going to feel when you get on snow again. Then multiply that by 1 trillion.

What struggles are you going through right now? What injustices do you see in the world? Remember that these struggles will be made perfect one day by God.
