Fast Tracks

Feb 6, 2024 | Devotionals

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5-8 NIV

Have you ever seen the “Fast Tracks” line at the ski resort? It’s that special chairlift line that basically skips the line. You pay extra money for it, but it saves time as you get to skip ahead of all the poor peasants in the ’regular’ line. Outside Magazine posted an article criticizing the resorts for up-charging for access to the outdoors based on financial ability.

It reminded me of how this one guy who had the special card to get access to the special lift line but decided to not use it for my sake. In Philippians 2:5-8 it says, “Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” Yes I am talking about Jesus. He didn’t actually have the Fast Tracks Ski Pass, he had something greater: deity.

He is God! Yet he chose not to use that to his own advantage. He came and served people humbly. He loved you and me so much that he gave his very life to save us. What a crazy guy! I am so grateful.

  • If you had the Fast Tracks pass, and there was a huge line, would you ever decide not to use it?

  • What advantages are you willing not to use so that you can serve others well?

  • Are you willing to be radically obedient to God, even if it causes you loss?
