We had the pleasure of partnering with YWAM Denver Boarders Discipleship Training School (or BDTS) to do an outreach at the Winter X Games in Aspen. YWAM BDTS has been doing outreach in Aspen since 2002 through serving in the local community, giving away coffee/hot cocoa, cleaning up trash in town, and evangelizing on the bus and at the X Games venue. Josh Koster, YWAM BDTS leader, felt that SFC should work alongside them this year. We were thrilled to participate in this opportunity to go to X Games in Aspen.
X Games brings a culture full of partying, drinking, drugs, and hooking up. Though many were rude with us for being Christians, lots appreciated the hot drinks and clean-up service. Some people were even open to talking about Christ and letting us pray with them. It was exactly why we were there: to be a light in the shred culture. Next time we also hope to do an SFC Wax & Dinner night demo.
In addition to serving at the X Games, we also got to share our mission and vision with the local church. Aspen has been in our prayers that their locals would start a SFC chapter to be the light of Jesus to their shred community. One of our favorite parts was when we got to share about SFC to a middle and high school group at the local church. We talked about how we could be a light by passing out PB&Js to others on the mountain. After that, a group of three middle schoolers went out and passed out sandwiches to people with notes that read, “Jesus loves you.” I loved spreading the vision and letting peeps know what we do and what they can do to partner with us to building the Kingdom.
Partnering with YWAM BDTS is a mutually beneficial relationship to build ministries together and ultimately the kingdom. We look forward to invite each other to events such as Loveland pass days, the Early Bird Rail Jam, wax nights to serve.
