1 Corinthians 12:12-14 “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”
Just like sharing the gospel to shredders on the chairlift and on the hill, we also have to share our vision to other fellow believers. The mission is to bridge the snowriding culture to Jesus Christ, partnering with the local Church. But what is the local church? The church isn’t a building; church is the people that gather.
The church includes people from different backgrounds and stages of life who may not know anything about the snowboard culture. Members of the Body of Christ are joined to Christ from his salvation. The local church might not be able to reach the snowboard culture like we can because we are in the culture. But with this partnership, they can trust, support, and encourage you to accomplish the goal to share the good news to the snowriding culture.
I had the privilege to serve and encourage the SFC Australia chapter in Jindabyne close to Perisher resort. SFC didn’t have a big presence in their church community. I persistently went out of my way to meet with many church community members for a meal or coffee to share this vision and mission of SFC. They quickly realized the importance of this partnership and that we could reach the people on the hill that might never set foot in a church. After that, doors and opportunities kept opening to be able to share our SFC mission and vision to the body of the church. They were able to pray for us and help make meals to share with the community. For those not involved in the church community, we brought the church to them to share our heart and vision. Sometimes we have to meet people where they are, which may be the local pub! We invited the community and the local business to the local bar for a shred flick movie night that shared the good news of Jesus. It was a great way to meet new friends and invite them into what we were doing as SFC. As a result, many took their first steps into the church and got involved with SFC on and off the hill.
Challenge
How is your SFC partnering with the local church?
Are you sharing your heart and vision of SFC to all the different members of the church?
Do you have a need that could be meet in your community that you can’t do on your own?
