I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. – John 12:46-48
Jesus came into this world to SAVE us. Not everyone has that straight. Have you ever heard someone say, “Why would Jesus or God send me to hell…?” or something like that? However, that thinking is pretty backwards from the truth. The sin in our lives separate us from God. It is our sinning that separates us from Him.
Be bold in dealing with sin. Get to know Jesus like you know your friends.
Have you ever recorded yourself doing a trick? You see so much about how you move and what you do right or wrong. You learn from it. But it’s hard to learn what to do right if you don’t know what you’re doing wrong. Often that means we need someone who knows the right way to do something. The good thing about life is that Jesus is the Man, and he knows all the right things.
When we do wrong, Jesus doesn’t hold it against us, but he does want to make it right in us. It takes us to see ourselves and say, “Yeah, that’s not right and I need to make a change.” Just think about that for a second: Jesus, perfect in every way, wants to make you righteous and holy. All it takes is a little self-searching for the sin in our lives and acknowledging it for what it is. We can do that boldly because of his victory over sin. How gnarly is that?
Challenge
Ask Jesus to help you look at sin in your life. Look to him for ways to deal with it. Maybe also share it with a close friend.
Challenge yourself to read more of God’s word so that you can know him more.
