Bonus: This Hope!

Apr 30, 2024 | Devotionals

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. (Hebrews 6: 19, NLT)

I was at the top of Mammoth Mountain a week ago, on one of those ‘bluebird’ days after a storm. It was the day before my son’s knee surgery. He wanted to ride to the very last minute that day, because this surgery is supposed to take him off snow for 7 months, although we are praying it heals quicker! The backside of the mountain is the best, and the joy of flying down each run was overwhelming for us! He asked me to film as he flew through the halfpipe; I did my best! The smile on his face, the freedom he carries when he spins in the air brought tears to my eyes.

My question in that moment…Where is the hope, God?

You see, my son has been dreaming about going to the Olympics for 20 years, since he was 5 years old! In 2022, he was Olympic Alternate for men’s halfpipe, 5th in the USA; a bittersweet place to be. That season ended with no invite to the US Team, with no clear explanation for their decision, a huge surprise & disappointment for my son. Then, a month later, he was told he had to have shoulder surgery. Now, here he is injured again less than 2 years later, right before the build to the 2026 Olympics, that begins next winter season.

In Hebrews 6, is says, “This hope, is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” This hope, it leads us into the peaceful presence of God. This hope, it connects us to look forward to our future. This hope, I know we can only connect to it through Jesus.

All of face disappointments, loss, dreams put on hold; hope gets deferred at times. But this hope, we must continue to find it, even if we only see a glimpse. This hope, it pulls us into the ‘inner sanctuary’ of our mighty God. This hope, that only comes from Jesus, brings eternal purpose for our lives. This hope, it diminishes the temporary pain that we encounter on earth. This hope, it brings new perspective to our mindsets, revealing God’s plans for each of us. This hope, when found in Jesus, drenches us with an unconditional love, reminding us that we are a son or a daughter of the Most-High King.

This hope, if we look for it, will place our gaze on the face of Jesus, the one who empowers us to pick ourselves up & take a step forward, once again, into the next season that He has for our lives!

  • In what area of your life do you need to take time to find hope for your future? (Reference Jeremiah 29:11)
  • Do you trust Jesus to bring hope into your life?
  • Take time in the presence of the Lord, that is where your help comes from & where hope will be found!!
