Blood Connection

The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. Genesis 4:10

As I read through the bible this interesting fixation keeps coming up on the value and emphasis on life blood. The first time it caught my attention was when reading about Cain killing his brother Able and God’s statement, “your brother’s blood cries out.” Well that seems like a strange thing to say, I thought. Then we get to Leviticus and all the sacrifices, which is an absolute blood bath. But there is a major emphasis on the blood and what you do with the blood, how you handle it. So often blood is associated with sin and death. Finally we get to the New Testament where Jesus spills His blood, so that we can have our blood cleansed. Hebrews 9:22 says “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (NIV)

Quick shameless plug for Answer in Genesis. If you haven’t been to the Creation Museum in Kentucky, it’s a must go, and some great tools exist on the website for learning from Answer in Genesis. They are doing amazing science work and it is faith building. Great place to go for tough scientific questions. While there, I learned some very interesting facts about our DNA. The code that is written into our DNA, just like a computer has a code put there by a software engineer, not only points to a creator, but the amount of information crammed into that single blood cell will blow your mind. Now that DNA cell as generations go on is actually loosing information, which links to the fall of this world and the sin that is destroying it. Still blood is the very thing that gives us life. It’s the very thing that makes us who we are. And our blood is carrying life to this pile of dust. Jesus wanted us to continue to remember his blood that he gave, or more importantly remember he cleansed our blood stained garments with his blood, when we break bread through Communion.

So why make these connections and the importance of blood? Not only are we God’s creation, but we have the very finger print of God flowing through our veins.

Challenge

  • What is this flesh without blood?
  • Is there more to Christ dwelling in us than just spiritually?
  • How does the fact of Christ cleansing blood effect your life?
